ingredients

2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon dry active yeast
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/8 cup molasses
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups all purpose white flour

directions

Place the warm water in a bowl and sprinkle it with the yeast. Let stand.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, molasses, honey, and salt and mix until blended. Stir in the yeast and water.

In another bowl, stir together the whole wheat and white flour. Add the flour one cup at a time to the yeast mixture, stirring well after each addition.

Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl and cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap sprayed with cooking spray. Let rise in a warm, draft free location until doubled in size.

Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and punch it down to release the air. Let rest for 5 minutes.

Divide the dough into two halves and form into loaves. Place in greased loaf pans. Place in a warm, draft free location and let rise for one hour.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Place the loaf pans in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped with your knuckles. Remove the pans from the oven. Let the bread cool in the pans for 5-10 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing or storing. Store the bread in an airtight container.

Since going into quarantine for COVID-19, everyone has been baking bread and I thought I’d take a crack at it. This is my second time making bread, the first one was a quick bread that I forgot to use bread flour with. It still turned out good but I knew I could do better. I came across this receipt and it came out so amazing! The smell was intoxicating from beginning to end. I let the yeast sit in warm water for a while as well let the refrigerated butter softened with the honey, salt and molasses. Time is your best friend with this recipe, other than that, it’s a great option if you have all the ingredients. Hoping someone comes across this next time they think of baking bread and use this recipe instead of stepping outside. Stay safe! Wash your hands! Use a mask and gloves!

Excellent. I highly recommend this receipt but due to using less sugar I opt for using organic sugar free honey which worked great and I also did not add the molasses. The bread turned out soft and yummy! I make this bread now about 3-4 times a week and I do not buy bread anymore. I form the loaf into buns for hamburgers and hot dogs. Healthy and really delicious.

My first attempt at bread made by hand! I normally just use my bread machine. It was a huge hit! Had a nice crumb to it and way more flavor than other whole wheat breads that I've had.

I've been on a bread making kick lately and have tried several recipes. This one was the best! Very tasty bread!

I loved this bread. I usually do packaged bread in my breadmaker. My friend was using my maker and I wanted to make bread. I think I did a great job putting this together, and the taste was out of this world. I would make this over and over

  7. Songbird REVIEW:

My grown daughters are finally ready to learn how to make bread. Well, we made 8 loaves yesterday using this recipe! It's a very easy recipe to follow and the results are great! We ended up with 8 beautiful and tasty loaves of bread that is good for sandwiches, snacks or maybe with soup. It was a hit with everyone from my daughters, to my sons-in-law and even my grandkids.

  8. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

Used this recipe last night - this morning, the flavour of this bread (and my success at my second attempt at making a yeast bread - the first attempt was terrible) are all the rave in the house.

  9. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

Great bread with a light flavor. I love it.
