Baked Cherry Pudding

ingredients
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 dash salt
2/3 cup milk
1 can (14.5 ounce size) pitted tart cherries, undrained
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon butter
directions
In a bowl, combine 2/3 cup sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk. Spread mixture in a 11 x 7 x 2 inch casserole or similar oblong baking dish. Set aside.
In a saucepan, combine cherries, butter and 1 cup sugar. Stir over medium heat and bring to a boil, cooking a minute or two to dissolve sugar. Spoon over mixture in pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until top is light golden brown.
This is a easy yet delicious cake-like homey dessert. Serve with whipped topping or whipped cream. Serve warm.
