CRUST
35 vanilla wafers, crushed
1/2 stick butter, melted
FILLING
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
TOPPING
1/2 pint heavy cream, whipped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
1/4 cup chopped English walnuts
1/4 cup chopped cherries
directions
For Crust: Combine vanilla wafer crumbs and melted butter. Mix and fit into pie plate.
For Filling: Cream softened butter and powdered sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Spread onto wafer crust.
For Topping: Combine whipped cream, vanilla and powdered sugar. Add nuts and cherries. Spread onto pie and sprinkle top with additional wafer crumbs.
Chill for at least 2 hours.

i am 74 and like the other reviewer, i have searched for this recipe for years too...and my mother made it with black walnuts also...how ironic...lol..it was my favorite dessert from my childhood and i am so happy to find it...i wonder if it was in joy of cooking, as that was her bible, and perhaps the other reviews mom also...i couldnot find it there...
