ingredients

2/3 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
additional sugar

directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.

In a large bowl beat butter and sugar until well-blended. Add egg and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture.

Using an ice cream scoop or 1/4 cup measuring cup, drop dough about 2" apart onto prepared cookie sheet. Bake 13-15 minutes or until cookie springs back when touched lightly in center.

While cookies are on cookie sheet, lightly sprinkle with additional sugar. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

* To sour milk: Use 1 tsp. white vinegar plus milk to equal 1/3 cup.

A perfect chocolate sugar cookie. Just the right sweetness.

  2. Kit REVIEW:

Oh...my...god. These are fantabulistic! I added a tablespoon of espresso and these are to die for chocolate temptations. Chocolate flavor coats your mouth without being cloying or too sweet. Definitely going in my "keep it forever because everybody is going to ask for the recipe" stack.

  3. Amy REVIEW:

Great cookie. Simple to make, simple in form yet delish at the same time. I drizzled a little melted cream cheese icing over the top rather than the extra sugar. Yummy!

  4. babblepfish REVIEW:

Very good taste. Very simple to make, took no time at all to prepare. Recipe as stated made only 2 dozen cookies. Highly recommended.
