It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).


3 large oranges
1 cup dry red wine
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
3 cinnamon sticks
15 whole cloves
3/4 cup sugar
Peel oranges and cut into rings about 3/8" thick; set aside.
Combine wine, vinegar, spices and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat; simmer 10 minutes. Pour over orange slices. Cover and let stand until cool.
Serve over ice cream. Or, drain off extra liquid and serve over angel food cake.
