This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

With bacon as a sidekick, these green beans turn into a Rockstar and steal the dinner table show. Front row tickets, please. I don't want to miss the party.

2 tablespoons bacon grease
1 pound fresh green beans, ends trimmed
1 1/2 cup hot beef broth
1/4 cup chopped onion
ground black pepper, to taste
chopped, cooked bacon, if desired
Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the bacon grease. When melted, add the green beans and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are bright green. Drain off the excess fat.
Add the beef stock and onion to the saucepan. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover the pan and let simmer for 1 hour or until the beans are tender. If there is a lot of liquid remaining, drain off any excess.
Add the black pepper to taste and chopped, cooked bacon. Mix well then serve the old-fashioned green beans hot.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
