Do you know if you can use this sugar to make cotton candy?

    • You should be able to use this sugar in any recipe calling for granulated sugar.

Coloring sugar is so simple and can add some really elegant touches to your desserts. I highly recommend starting out with a light hand with the food coloring. A little goes a long way. If you do add too much you can dilute it with more sugar. Liquid food coloring works best except for really bold colors. Paste will give you better color but it doesn't leave the texture of the sugar as nice and fine (it gets a little more clumpy). I used paste to make black sugar. I tried it first with liquid color and it turned more gray/green than black. The paste gave me a great black color but coarser results. If you want colored powdered sugar simply make the color you need using granulated sugar and then put it in the blender once it's dried.

I needed colored sugar for decorating for a baby shower. Buying the sugar would have been horribly expensive so I bought the coarse sugar in bulk and made my own using this recipe. It was perfect and I liked that I could get just the right shade.
