A batch of fresh-baked cookies makes any house smell wonderful (including the White House). A major upgrade over classic oatmeal raisin, these cookies are studded with walnuts and dried cherries for tartness.

1 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
3 large eggs, room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

3 cups quick oats (not old fashioned)
2 cups chopped walnuts
3 cups chocolate chunks
2 cups coarsely chopped dried cherries

Cream butter and both sugars. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then beat in vanilla. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and oats. Add to mixture and slowly beat until blended. Stir in nuts, chocolate and cherries.

Drop by tablespoonfuls an inch or so apart onto parchment covered or sprayed cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes. Don't overbake.

  1. Spannfam REVIEW:

These cookies are delicious! My husband's favorite! I buy dried cherries, place them in warm water to soak. After they are plump, I drain them and let them sit in the colander while I finish assembling the rest of my ingredients. These give the cookies such a good texture and flavor!

  2. KitchenCulture REVIEW:

These cookies are fantastic! A great combination of flavors and textures. I usually make them with raisins and dark chocolate chips.

  5. Brenda REVIEW:

These are fantastic! Delicious variety of flavors and texture. The second time I made them I substituted craisins (easier and cheaper to find) and dark chocolate ( to compensate for the extra sweetness of the craisins). This recipe has been inducted into my cookie collection.
