Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

6 cups flour
2 packages dry yeast
2 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons instant minced onion, divided
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 egg
1/4 cup water
In a large mixer bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour and yeast. Heat together milk, sugar 2 tablespoons onion, oil, mustard, salt and pepper. Pour very warm, but not hot, liquid into flour and beat with mixer for about 3 minutes or until smooth. Stir in enough of remaining flour to make a stiff dough.
Turn dough onto a floured board and knead until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and turn once to grease top. Cover and let rise until double. Punch dough down and divide in half. Let rest briefly, then form each portion into 9 balls. Flatten on greased baking sheets in about 3 1/2-inch circles.
Let rise until double. Combine 2 tablespoons minced onion with 1/4 cup water and let stand for 5 minutes. Beat egg with 2 tablespoons water and brush rolls with egg; sprinkle with onions. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until done.

This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

Very nice recipe, I used course grained mustard instead of the prepared stated, but they have a wonderful crisp crust and a lovely texture! We are using them as buns for a homemade sloppy joe mixture and fresh corn on the cob for supper! yummy!
