Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.

This vibrant verde stew with meat, potatoes, and fresh green chiles is as striking in flavor as it is in color. South of the border flavor wherever you are!

2 pounds lean beef round or pork
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons oil
3 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
1/2 cup diced onion
1 clove garlic, minced
8 fresh green chiles, seeded and sliced
water, as needed
Cut the meat into cubes and season with salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meat and cook, stirring frequently, until browned.
Stir the potatoes into the meat. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the onion, garlic, and green chiles. Mix well.
Add just enough water to cover the ingredients in the pan. Bring just to a simmer and let cook for 20 minutes or until the meat is tender and the potatoes are soft. Add more water if needed.
Serve the green chile stew hot.
