1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
3 cups flour
hot oil or shortening for frying

Beat the egg and blend with sugar; stir in milk, then remaining dry ingredients.
Drop by tablespoonfuls into hot fat; fry until brown. Drain on paper towels; when cool, roll in sugar.
