- add review
- #80086
over 5 hrs
ingredients
3 cups pinto beans, rinsed thoroughly
water, to cover the beans
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1 pinch ground ginger (to eliminate gas)
1/2 pound raw sliced bacon, cut into pieces
directions
Combine all ingredients in a crock pot. Cover and cook on low. After about 6 hours, check the water level, making sure it doesn't dry out.
When needed, add boiling water to pot to reduce heat loss. Continue to watch water level, but don't lift lid unless absolutely necessary!
After 18-20 hours, you can take off the lid and stir the beans. If the juice is too thin, you can leave it uncovered until eatin' time and turn it to high heat.
Salt the beans to taste any time between now and just before serving. Use this recipe and you will undoubtedly gain notoriety for making fantastic beans!

Keeping a can of frozen orange juice concentrate in the freezer means you can make more than just orange juice. Try it in a variety of orange-flavored recipes.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
