Slow Cooker Lentil Rice Soup

ingredients
2 cups dry lentils
2 cups uncooked brown rice
1 cup peeled and chopped carrots
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 onion, chopped
8 cups water
1 can (15 ounce size) chicken broth
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 bay leaf
1 cup sliced mushrooms
salt and black pepper, to taste
directions
Combine the lentils, rice, carrots, celery, onion, water, broth, garlic powder, oregano, and bay leaf in the crock pot. Stir well.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 6 hours. Add the sliced mushrooms and stir well. Cook on low for 1 more hour or until the lentils are tender and the mushrooms and other vegetables are cooked.
Remove the bay leaf before serving. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
