3 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 cups half and half
3 tablespoons cornstarch

directions

Combine the clams, cooked bacon, onion, cubed potatoes, water, salt, and pepper in the crock pot.

Cover the crock pot and cook on high for 3-4 hours.

I seldom comment on recipes, but this recipe is spot on! Only change I make is to substitute 1 cup of water with 1 cup clam juice. FANTASTIC!

I'm so mad. I just put everything in crockpot. Then realized I was supposed to wait 3 hours or so to add half and half and cornstarch. I will come back and let you know how it turns out. lol. Actually just thought of this- I will strain everything and re add the water and just add the half and half and cornstarch as I was supposed to.

I don't like potatoes in my clam chowder.

Very good recipe! Did not use as much 1/2 & 1/2 & increased clams, broth & spices.

This NE Clam Chowder would rival Cape Cod's finest! I, too, substituted heavy cream for the half and half and used 1 cup of the drained clam juice in place of 1 cup of the water. Also used more clams and less potato. Fabulous!!!

  6. Valerie REVIEW:

This is a delicious recipe! It's heavy on potatoes so if you like a more "clamy" chowder, reduce the potato and increase the clams. You could also substitute some of the water with clam juice if you wish. Instead of adding cornstarch, I used heavy cream instead of the half and half and slightly mashed some of the potatoes to thicken it.

I made this clam chowder while camping over Memorial Day Weekend. What a hit, even the kids were eating it - it was delicious and I highly recommend it!!
