As if a loaf of frozen bread dough wasn't already a simple way to make fresh bread, the crock pot helps make it even easier. No need to heat up the kitchen by firing up the oven. Plus, you can let the bread rise and bake with little fuss.

ingredients

1 loaf frozen bread dough, unthawed

directions

Grease a coffee can or loaf pan that will fit in your crock pot. Grease the entire frozen loaf of bread dough and place in the greased coffee can.

Cover the crock pot and heat on low for 2-3 hours or until the dough has thawed and doubled in size.

Increase the heat to high. Cook on high for 2-3 hours or until the bread is done (it should sound somewhat hollow when you tap on the crust).

Remove from the crock pot and let cool in the can for 5 minutes. Remove from the can and let cool completely on a baking rack before slicing.

crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

  2. Julie REVIEW:

This was amazing!!! We are camping and we have no oven. I thought let's give it a try. I made a Tuscany Stew and served it with warm bread. YUMM The people we are camping with are two slices each and can't wait to try it next time they go camping. Thank you for posting this!!!

What would you recommend the loaf pan be - metal? Or could it be glass or stoneware? Thanks!

    • Any heat-proof loaf pan should work fine (if it works in an oven it will work in this recipe)
