The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

A light and flavorful salad made with torn lettuce, apples, croutons, green onions, cooked bacon, and a light oil and lemon juice dressing.

8 ounces sliced bacon
1/2 cup salad oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3 red apples, cored, cut into bite-size pieces
1 small head lettuce, torn
1 cup croutons
3 green onions, sliced
In a large skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove from pan; drain on paper towels. Crumble bacon; set aside.
In a large bowl, combine oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Add apples; toss to coat. Add lettuce, croutons, green onions and bacon. Toss until combined.

A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I loved the simplicity of this recipe yet the combination of the ingredients just really worked well and made it taste better than I imagined it would. I didn't change a thing. You could always add additional toppings or seasonings but I was quite pleased with it as written.
