This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

This slow cooked chili gets lots of flavor from the combination of both sausage and ground beef. Because the meat and vegetables are browned first, this recipe has a short cooking time meaning you do not have to get it in the crockpot too far in advance of dinner.

1/2 pound hot Italian sausage, either cut in thin slices or removed from casings
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/8 cup chopped celery
1/8 cup chopped green bell peppers
1 cup hot salsa (or less spicy if you prefer)
1 can (16 ounce size) salt free tomato juice
1 can (6 ounce size) salt free tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons chili powder, optional, heat level as desired
Brown sausage, ground beef, and onion in deep skillet. During last 3 minutes of browning, add mushrooms, celery, and green peppers. Continue cooking; then drain. Add remaining ingredients.
Pour into crock pot. Cover; cook on high 2 to 3 hours.

I loved the combination of sausage and ground beef. It had really good texture and lots of flavor. Flavorful, but not overly spicy (you can definitely opt for the "hotter" versions of the ingredients if you wish). Delicious!
