Why are you still out there buying croutons? Bread brushed with oil and dusted with smoked paprika bakes into crunchy, salad-improving croutons faster than you can drive to the grocery.
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, pressed or crushed
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 slices country-style bread
Combine the oil, garlic, paprika, and salt in a bowl and mix well. Place the slices of bread on a work surface. Brush both sides of the bread evenly with the oil mixture.
Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes.
If using a toaster oven, spread the bread cubes on a piece of aluminum foil or a toaster oven baking tray. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes or until the croutons are golden brown and crisp, turning them as needed during the cooking time.
If using an air fryer, place the bread cubes in a single layer in the fryer basket. Air fry at 325 degrees F for 8 minutes, stirring the bread cubes once during the cooking time, or until the croutons are golden brown and crisp.
Let the croutons cool. Use when cool or store in an airtight container.
