  1. Louanne REVIEW:

I have now made these several times with my modifications: No garlic Added grated organic carrots and summer squash. The summer squash was spiralized, then chopped. I also added a teaspoon of coconut oil to add moisture, plus coconut is great for dogs. Try it! I freeze them and pull them out the night before to thaw, then cut them up into smaller bite size treats to use in obedience class or to put on top his kibble. Sometimes I thaw them in the microwave For about 30 seconds on a low power.

I made this recipe this morning. I made it slightly wrong with one pound of ground turkey breast, two eggs, 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese, one cup cooked oatmeal (not the quick cook type), 1/4 teaspoon of powdered garlic, and fresh oregano and Italian parsley leaves. I baked the meatballs in the oven at 350 for 40 minutes, turned them over and baked for 15 more minutes. Our dog likes them. My husband liked them although he said they tasted a little bland and would be great with a peanut sauce. For people I would use less oatmeal and more herbs.

Made this for my dog with 99% fat free turkey so they were pretty dry, but certainly not too dry for a dog. If you wanted a more moist meatball you could use 93/7 or 85/15 ground turkey. The recipe was very easy to make and they were very tasty--of course I tried them myself! I will be making them again. All my dogs loved them!

I like the idea of this recipe, however, it's my understanding that garlic should be avoided in dog foods. I'll give this one a go but leave out the spices. The chicken & egg will be tantalizing & tasty enough for my little fella.
