Garlic And Chive Bread - CDKitchen.com

serves/makes:

ready in:
  2-5 hrs

ingredients

5 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
1 tablespoon butter
1 1/4 cup milk
3 cups bread flour
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons snipped fresh chives
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon bread machine yeast

directions

Combine the garlic and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 minute or just until the garlic is fragrant. Remove the pan from the heat and let cool.

Add the cooled garlic butter, milk, flour, Parmesan, chives, sugar, salt, and yeast to the bread machine in the order recommended by the machine manufacturer. Use the white bread, light crust cycle.

Remove the bread pan from the machine and let the bread cool for 1 minute in the pan, then remove the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

recipe tips

For a softer crust, brush the top of the bread with melted butter immediately after baking.

Try different cheeses for varied flavors and textures in the bread.

If using dried yeast instead of bread machine yeast, activate the yeast in warm milk before adding it to the dough.

Consider adding a touch of honey to the dough for a hint of sweetness to balance the savory garlic and chive flavors.

common recipe questions

You can substitute Parmesan cheese with another hard cheese like Asiago or Pecorino Romano.

How should I store the bread?

Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days. You can also freeze it for longer storage. It will freeze well for up to 3 months.

Can I add more herbs or spices to the bread?

Yes, feel free to add herbs like parsley, basil, or oregano, or spices like black pepper or crushed red pepper flakes.

tools needed

Saucepan: To cook the minced garlic in butter until fragrant, infusing the butter with garlic flavor for the bread.

Bread Machine: For mixing and kneading the bread dough, as well as allowing it to rise and bake. If you don't have a bread machine, the dough can be kneaded by hand and baked in a regular oven.

Whisk: To combine the garlic and butter while cooking and stirring occasionally until the garlic is fragrant.

Measuring Cups and Spoons: To accurately measure the ingredients such as milk, bread flour, Parmesan cheese, fresh chives, sugar, salt, and bread machine yeast for the bread recipe.

Wire Rack: Used for cooling the freshly baked garlic and chive bread, allowing air to circulate around the loaf and preventing the bottom from getting soggy.

what goes with it?

Turkey and Avocado Sandwich: The garlic and chive flavor will hold up well to the rich avocado and bring out the flavor of the turkey, creating a balanced and savory sandwich.

Ham and Swiss Cheese Melt: The savory garlic and chive notes complement the salty ham and nutty Swiss cheese, enhancing the melted goodness of this classic sandwich.

Croutons: The bold garlic and chive flavors in the croutons will elevate any salad or soup, adding a crunchy, flavorful kick.

Stuffing: Using garlic and chive bread as a base for stuffing adds an extra layer of savory goodness, making the dish more aromatic and flavorful.

Smoked Salmon Spread: Make into toast points and top with a smoked salmon spread. The smoky, savory flavors of the salmon complement the garlic and chive.
