Crock Pot Cooking

by Guest Writer, Valerie Whitmore

It's no secret that I love my crock pot. Make that crock potS. Yes, I have four

For many years, the crock pot had been sneered at by "foodies". It was thought of as a vessel for making boring, sodium filled dinners made from roasts slathered in canned cream of mushroom soup or covered with packaged onion soup mix. But let me tell you, they have evolved. They. Have. Evolved.

While soups, stews, and roasts are probably still the most commonly found recipes for slow cooking, they have become more varied. You see less canned and packaged ingredients and more fresh, whole foods being added in. About once a week I make something soupy or stewy in the crock pot but I definitely use it for more than just that.

Recently I've also made chicken wings  oatmeal  and this week I'm making a peach fruit topping for ice cream

You can also make things like homemade tomato juice, breakfast casseroles, roast garlic, bake bread, and well, so much more

Here at CDKitchen we've had thousands of amazingly delicious crock pot recipes submitted to us over the years. Over 5,000 to be more precise. I've recently reorganized our slow cooking section to spotlight some of the more popular recipes and make it easier to navigate. So dust off that crock pot and get cooking!
