Dutch Speculaas
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup condensed milk
4 cups flour
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 tablespoons cinnamon
cloves
nutmeg
salt
DIRECTIONS:
Mix together the sugars, the shortening and the butter. Add the condensed milk and spices. Blend in the flour gradually. The batter will be somewhat stiff.
Roll batter into logs (cover with plastic or waxed paper). Leave in refrigerator overnight (or a few hours in the freezer). Cut into slices and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in 375 degrees F oven around 10 minutes.
