ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup molasses
2 teaspoons baking soda, dissolved in
1 cup boiling water
2 1/2 cups flour, PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
2 tablespoons flour (if at high altitudes)
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 eggs
apple sauce for topping
whipped cream for topping

In a large bowl, combine all except the topping ingredients. Transfer to a greased 9" x 12" baking pan or 2 smaller pans (to freeze one for future use).
Bake at 350 degrees F until a toothpick inserted comes out clean (40 to 50 minutes). Serve with the apple sauce and whipped cream on top.

Turned out very well. Nice and moist. I didn't serve with apple sauce, just the whipped cream.
