This turned out pretty soupy even though I added the 2 Tbsp flour to the pears. My pears were pretty ripe, though. I made this with some alterations. For the crumble top I substituted oatmeal and brown sugar for the flour and sugar. I also added pecans. DH pronunciation it "good!"

This was delicious and so easy! I had to use Anjou since Bartletts aren't in season anymore here but I believe it turned out quite the same as it would with the Bartletts. I highly recommend this recipe.

Amazingly easy, and the results were terrific! My other half -who does NOT bake- decided to make this pie. He made the following spice substitutions, based on another recipe: instead of the ginger and mace, he used 1/4 tsp each cinnamon and nutmeg. He also liked the idea of nuts in the crumble, so he added 1/2 cup chopped pecans. It was wonderful! The spices were perfect, adding warm, familiar notes to the pears, and the pecans added a great crunch. We did bake for about 50 minutes total, until it was bubbly around the edges, and rotated the pie about halfway through cooking. We, er, HE will be making this again!!
