Hawaiian Green Onion Soup

ingredients
1 tablespoon sesame seed
1 pound short ribs, cut in 1-inch pieces
1/4 cup soy sauce
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups green onions, including tops, cut in 1-inch pieces
black pepper
6 cups water
directions
Heat sesame seed in a small skillet until golden. Wipe short ribs with damp cloth. Put in a large saucepan with water, soy sauce, salt, and sesame seed. Simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours.
Remove short ribs. Cut bone and fat from meat and discard. Skim excess fat from soup. Return meat to soup. Add onions and tops. Cook covered for 10 minutes.
Before serving soup, sprinkle with pepper.
