recipe tips

Try different citrus juices like blood orange or grapefruit for variations.

For a stronger citrus flavor, add a splash of fresh lime juice to the mix.

To make a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the Southern Comfort and increase the amount of tangerine juice and margarita mix.

If you prefer a less sweet cocktail, reduce the amount of margarita mix or use a sugar-free alternative.

For a fun twist, try rimming the glass with a mixture of salt and chili powder for a spicy kick.

Try adding a splash of club soda to lighten the drink and add effervescence.

common recipe questions

What is Southern Comfort and can I substitute it?

Southern Comfort is a fruit and spice-flavored liqueur, often used in cocktails. If desired, you can substitute it with another whiskey or bourbon for a different flavor.

Why use tangerine juice in this margarita?

Tangerine juice adds a bright, citrusy flavor to the margarita, giving it a unique and refreshing twist.

Can I use fresh tangerine juice instead of store bought?

Fresh tangerine juice can be used for a more vibrant and fresh flavor, just be sure to strain out any pulp before adding it to the cocktail. If you don't have tangerine juice, you can substitute orange juice mixed with a teaspoon of sugar (tangerines are sweeter).

What is margarita salt and is it necessary for this recipe?

Margarita salt is a coarse salt used to rim the glass of a margarita. It is not necessary for the recipe, but adds a decorative touch and boosts the flavor of each sip.

Can I make a pitcher of this margarita instead of individual servings?

You can easily scale this recipe up to make a pitcher by multiplying the ingredients accordingly. Just be sure to stir well before serving.

How should I store the leftover ingredients?

Store any leftover tangerine juice, Southern Comfort, and margarita mix in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Can I garnish this cocktail with anything else?

Feel free to garnish the cocktail with tangerine slices, mint leaves, or a twist of lime.
