The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

The downside of margaritas is the sugar content. If you are watching your carbs, try this version made with sugar-free drink mix. Cut down on calories out without sacrificing happy hour.
1 handful ice cubes
2 1/2 teaspoons sugar free powdered drink mix (such as Crystal Light or Kool-Aid), any flavor
2 teaspoons water
1 shot tequila
1/8 teaspoon lime juice
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
Rim a margarita glass with cocktail salt and set aside.
Place the ice in a cocktail shaker. Add the drink mix, water, tequila, lime juice, and lemon juice. Shake well.
Strain the margarita into the prepared glass and serve immediately. You can add ice to the glass if desired or for a blended margarita, combine the ingredients and ice in blender.

Finally I can have a margarita again! Been counting calories carefully to get into shape but I do miss having a sweet drink once in a while. This turned out pretty good. Not quite as strong flavor as a real margarita but I think I can tweak that with the amount or brand of drink mix I use. Definitely will keep this recipe handy!
