A simple pie with a sweet apple filling and a buttery crumble topping.

5 cups cubed, peeled baking apples
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 (9-inch size) unbaked pie shell
Topping
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cold butter or margarine, cut into bits
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Combine the apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Toss to coat the apples in the spices and then transfer to the unbaked pie shell.
In another bowl, combine the sugar and flour. Add the butter and cut with a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the apple pie filling.
Place the pie in the oven and bake at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 375 degrees F and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are fork-tender and the crumble topping is golden brown.
Remove the apple crumble pie from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into serving pieces.

Keeping a can of frozen orange juice concentrate in the freezer means you can make more than just orange juice. Try it in a variety of orange-flavored recipes.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I've baked tons of cookies and cakes before, but this was my very first pie. It was also my fiance's one request for our Thanksgiving menu, which happened to be our first Thanksgiving together that I prepared. (No pressure)! I followed the recipe step by step (which was self explanatory for those of us that are new at this) and it resulted in the best pie either one of us has ever had! I've given this recipe to all of my sisters, knowing they'll love it.
