ingredients

2 cups elbow macaroni
3/4 cup velveeta cheese
2/3 cup mild yellow cheddar cheese
1/3 cup whole milk
1/4 teaspoon salt

directions

In a pot bring water to a boil with salt to taste, once the water comes to a boil add the macaroni and cook for 12 to 15 minutes. When the noodles are cooked drain but do not rinse.

To make the cheese sauce in a pan over low heat combine the Velveeta cheese, shredded cheddar and the milk. Cook the cheeses till they are melted and then add the salt.

Add the noodles and mix through. Place in a casserole dish and bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 400 degrees F. You may want to broil the top to make a brown top.

I find this to be nearly identical to KFC. As others said, use good ingredients. Don't use preshredded cheese (shred it fresh - the preshredded is bland because of all the extra starch in it), use whole milk and name brand Velveeta.

  2. friendlycook REVIEW:

Laughing at those who think kfc's mac and cheese has more flavor than this. It's very mild just like this recipe. This is a good recipe and easy. And I agree with the other review that says to use good ingredients. Makes all the diff.

  3. Ginny REVIEW:

I found this to be EXACTLY like KFC's mac and cheese - which is, contrary to what others wrote, very bland. That's how I like it which is why I even bother ordering it at the restaurant. It's very plain and simple. This is a good copy of it. The one thing though is that I used a good brand of cheddar and name brand (Velveeta - not store brand) of the processed cheese. Maybe that's why - too many people try to sub off brand ingredients and think they'll have good results. I also used whole milk which I bought specifically for this recipe. Most people don't drink whole milk anymore so I also wonder if they tried to sub something else for it. Try the recipe EXACTLY AS WRITTEN and I think you'll be as happy as I was.

Not impressed. but should expect this with the limited ingredients. My daughter liked it. But like the other poster. I thought it was bland. My husband makes this same thing without a recipe. Im sure this is nothing like KFC.

  5. Poppers REVIEW:

This Mac and cheese was horrible! It was plain with no flavor whatsoever, and was nothing like KFC's Mac and cheese. Do not waste your time with this recipe!

  6. JK_Pepper003 REVIEW:

I don't know if this is like KFC or not but it made a great mac and cheese in a pinch. It's a very basic recipe but most of my family doesn't like the fancy macs that have all kinds of add-ins and a variety of cheeses. This is a good simple recipe.
