In German "schnitzel" means a boneless veal cutlet. Add bread crumbs and fry it, and you have Wiener Schnitzel. Variations of the dish exist in many cultures throughout the world. Just don't try to order it at Wienerschnitzel fast-food restaurants, because the last I checked they don't have it!
