A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.
Three Day Lime Pickles

ingredients
7 pounds sliced or cubed cucumbers
1 cup lime (see note)
1 gallon water
9 cups sugar
2 quarts apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon whole cloves
1 tablespoon celery seed
1 tablespoon pickling seed
1 tablespoon salt
directions
Soak cucumbers for 24 hours in lime mixed with the water. Move pickles gently in lime water 3 times while soaking. Wash well in 3 waters (carefully, they break easily). Soak in clear water 3 hours. Drain.
Mix remaining ingredients. Pour this mixture over pickles. Let stand overnight. Then slowly boil them in this mixture 35 minutes. Put in hot sterilized jars and seal.
Cook's Note: lime is food grade calcium hydroxide.
