Need an easy craft idea for the kids? This recipe makes a creamy finger paint that you can tint with food coloring as needed.
serves/makes:
ready in: under 30 minutes
ingredients
3 tablespoons cornstarch 1/4 cup cold water 2 drops liquid dish detergent 1 cup boiling water food coloring
directions
Stir together the cornstarch and cold water in a bowl. Mix until smooth. Add the dish washing liquid and mix well.
While stirring, carefully add the boiling water and stir until the mixture thickens. Add the desired food coloring a drop at a time, mix well then let cool.
Store the finger paint in a container with a tight-fitting lid. If it dries out, add water a few drops at a time until it is rehydrated.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
