It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).

Fourth of July means party time, and these beans know how to throw down. Mixed with chopped ham, brown sugar, sauteed peppers and onions these beans will be the hit of the party.

1 large onion
1 large green bell pepper
1/4 teaspoon ketchup
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 dash hot sauce
1/8 pound chopped ham
1 can pork and beans
In a large skillet, saute onion and green pepper in ketchup. Blend in honey, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and ham. Add the pork and beans.
Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, until liquid is absorbed.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

I wasn't sure about the 1/4 teaspoon of ketchup so I used 1/4 cup assuming it was a typo. I think that worked ok. The onion and pepper were a little crisp tender still so I think next time I'll saute them longer and not in the ketchup because I was worried about that burning. The ham was ok in this but I think it would be better with bacon.

This recipe was a huge hit over the 4th and I past the recipe out 5 times now! I am making them again tonight! Thanks.
Recipe calls for !/4 teaspoon of ketchup also 1 large onion chopped and 1 green bell pepper chopped. The directions start off ..... "In a large skillet, saute onions and bell pepper in ketchup....." Can you actually saute a large onion and a green pepper in 1/4 teaspoon of ketchup ???????
Hmmm - 1/4 cup maybe?
