Meatballs In Spicy Spaghetti Sauce

ingredients
SAUCE
1 can (46 ounce size) tomato juice
1 can (6 ounce size) tomato paste
1 can (14.5 ounce size) crushed tomatoes in thick puree
1 cup beef broth
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 small yellow onion, chopped
1/2 cup diced celery
4 ounces mushrooms, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons pickling spices, enclosed in tea infuser or tied in a cheesecloth sack
12 ounces spaghetti, cooked as directed on package and drained
freshly grated Parmesan cheese for topping
MEATBALLS
2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup diced yellow onion
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup milk
directions
For Sauce: In a large pot over medium-high heat, combine all ingredients. Cook, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
Remove pickling spices and discard. Reduce heat to medium-low or low and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
Add meatballs and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes longer.
Serve sauce and cooked spaghetti in separate bowls. Pass a bowl of Parmesan cheese for sprinkling on top.
For Meatballs: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
In a bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Form into 1-inch balls. Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake until browned, about 10 minutes. Add to sauce as directed.
