With just a few pantry items like sugar and cocoa powder, this water fudge recipe is a delightful reminder that homemade treats don't have to be complicated.

2 cups granulated sugar
6 tablespoons cocoa powder
3/4 cup cold water
1/2 cup butter, cut into bits
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine the sugar, cocoa powder, and water in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook until the sugar dissolves and it is it a rolling boil.
When boiling, add the butter. Cook until the mixture reaches 234 degrees F on a candy thermometer.
Remove the pan from the heat and let cool. Add the vanilla extract and beat vigorously for 5 minutes or until the fudge thickens.
Pour into a pan lined with buttered foil or drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Let stand until firm.

This was the recipe my grandmother always used. I've been looking for it forever! Using peanut butter instead of butter made it just like Grandma's!
