Create a delicious mess with Bisquick blackberry dumplings. A simple recipe where frozen berries meet a fluffy dough.

serves/makes:

ready in:
  under 30 minutes

ingredients

2 bags (14 ounce size) frozen blackberries
1 cup sugar, divided
1/3 cup water
2 cups Bisquick baking mix
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

directions

Combine the blackberries, half of the sugar, and the water in a Dutch oven or large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil.

While the blackberries are coming to a boil, combine the baking mix, remaining sugar, egg, milk, and oil in a bowl and mix just until it forms a moist dough.

When the blackberries are at a boil, drop the Bisquick dough but spoonfuls onto the fruit. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the Dutch oven. Let the dumplings cook for 15 minutes without lifting the cover.

Remove the cover and cook the dumplings until done.

Serve the dumplings and blackberry sauce, topped with fresh whipped cream.

recipe tips

If you prefer a sweeter sauce, you can add more sugar to the blackberries while they cook.

For added flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the blackberry sauce.

To make the dumplings extra fluffy, avoid overmixing the dough - a few lumps are okay.

For a decadent touch, serve the dumplings and sauce with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
