Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I just want to say that my father use to try to make this all of the time. He did pretty good. I have been looking for a recipe similar to his and instead I found one better. I love this recipe. It is wonderful. The only thing I would add is that you can also make this on the stove and instead of putting the rice in the dish, cook it on the side and top it with the ship wreckstew. This is also good. Thank's for the good recipe for people like me to find. This was deffinately a 5 star recipe.
