My local grocery store did not have candied cherries so I used one can of cherries in suger water and one can of cherries in plain water (thoroughly drained). It was absolutely delicious and was a huge hit at home and work! The sweet and tart cherries added two distinct flavors and moisture to the cake that made it mouth-wateringly good.
