Old School English Beef And Kidney Stew

ingredients
1 pound stewing steak
a bit of kidney
1 carrot
1 onion
1 stock cube sized piece of gravy salt (available from Robertsons Butchers, Gorgie Road, Edinburgh for 50p enough to make 12 stews.
directions
Put steak, kidney, carrot and onion in pot. Pour in enough water to cover. Bring to boil Put lid on and let it dae away for a couple of hours When meat is tender, crumble in the gravy salt. Mix in and keep stirring until it's thick enough. The way you like it. If it's not thick enough, put in a teaspoon of cornflour. I dinnae myself Stick a fork in the meat. If it breaks up, it's ready
These ingredients make enough to do 2 days I suggest serving it with new potatoes, or mashed. Whatever you fancy. Maybe with some peas or sprouts, as there's carrot already in it. As far as I know, Robertsons Butchers in Gorgie is the only place you can get gravy salt. My mother used to use it years ago and I've been trying to find some for ages.
