ingredients
2 1/4 cups cake flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
red and green food color
directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a rectangular pan 13 x 9 x 2 inches in size.
Beat all ingredients except food color in a large bowl on medium speed, scraping bowl constantly until blended, about 30 seconds. Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, for 3 minutes.
Divide batter into 3 equal parts. Tint 1/3 pink with 2 or 3 drops red food color and tint 1/3 green with 2 or 3 drops food color.
Drop batter by alternate color spoonfuls into pan. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes.
Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool completely.
