Ranking #1 in nearly every "favorite cookie" poll, the chocolate chip cookie is pretty much the go-to cookie of choice for both kids and grownups alike.

Making donuts at home is easier than you might think especially with this recipe using cake mix. You can have fresh, homemade donuts in no time.

3 cups oil for frying (or as needed)
1 package (15-18 ounce size) cake mix, any flavor
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs
1 1/4 cup water
1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Heat the oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer to 375 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, flour, water, and eggs in a mixing bowl. Beat on low speed with an electric mixer for 5 minutes or until smooth.
When the oil is hot, drop the donut batter, about 2 tablespoons at a time, into the hot oil. Do not crowd the donuts. Cook the donuts in the oil for 3-5 minutes or until golden. Turn the donuts as needed so they brown on all sides.
Remove the donuts from the oil with a slotted spoon. Let drain on paper toweling. Repeat with the remaining donut batter.
Dust the cake donuts with powdered sugar. Store the cooled donuts in an airtight container.
You can change up the flavor and color quite a bit that way. Add about 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of extract and slowly add the food coloring until you get the desired color.
Deep Fryer or Deep Skillet: For heating oil to 375 degrees F for frying the donuts. A deep fryer is ideal, but a deep skillet or large heavy pot may also be used.
Measuring Cups: For measuring the ingredients such as the oil, flour, and water.
Mixing Bowl: For combining the cake mix, flour, water, and eggs.
Electric Mixer: For beating the donut batter. An electric mixer simplifies the mixing process, but a whisk or spatula could be used if needed.
Slotted Spoon: For removing donuts from the hot oil once they are golden brown, allowing excess oil to drain away.
Paper Towels: For draining the fried donuts after they are removed from the oil, helping to absorb any excess oil.
Airtight Container: For storing the cooled donuts.
Chocolate Glaze: A rich chocolate glaze will boost the sweetness of the donuts, creating a smooth finish that chocolate lovers will appreciate.
Maple Frosting: A maple buttercream frosting has a warm, classic flavor that complements the cake texture of the donuts.
Sprinkles: Colorful sprinkles add a fun visual element and a slight crunch, making the donuts more inviting, especially for kids and parties.
Cinnamon Sugar Coating: Dipping the warm donuts in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar gives them a nostalgic flavor reminiscent of fairground treats.
Coffee Icing: A kahlua coffee icing pairs well with sweet donuts, amping up their flavor while providing a balance with the bitterness of coffee.
Caramel Sauce: Drizzling this quick caramel sauce over the donuts adds a rich, buttery sweetness that deepens the overall indulgent experience.
Milkshake: Pair the donuts with a milkshake for a classic diner-style experience that combines sweet flavors and creamy textures.
Bacon Crumble: Adding crispy bacon crumbles offers a savory contrast that enhances the sweetness of the donuts, creating a fun balance of flavors.

Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.
