ingredients
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3/4 cup shortening
2 1/2 cups light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups cold black coffee
1 tablespoon soda
CUSTARD FROSTING
2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
directions
Sift flour, salt, cocoa together.
Cream shortening with sugar and eggs, one at a time. Beat until fluffy. Add dry ingredients. Alternate adding coffee with soda. Then add vanilla.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes.
For Custard Frosting: Cream above ingredients together on low mixer. Then cook, stirring constantly. Cover with wax paper and cool.
