Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Double the meat, double the flavor. Beef and sausage slow-cooked with kidney beans, tomatoes, and onion is a great way to beat the cold weather. Want to spice it up? Use chorizo instead of sausage.
1 pound ground beef
1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup sliced celery
2 cans (15.5 ounce size) kidney beans
1 can (1 pound, 12 ounce size) tomatoes, cut up
1 can (6 ounce size) tomato paste
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons salt
In a skillet, cook ground beef and sausage until browned; drain off excess fat. Transfer meat mixture to a slow cooker.
Add onions, green pepper and celery. Stir in undrained kidney beans, undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, chili powder and salt. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 8 to 10 hours.

A basic chili recipe but good. If I make it again I'll use hot italian sausage in it for more flavor. It was just a tad on the bland side (but not bad)

This recipe is one of our favorites and we originally found it in the Better Homes & Gardens cookbook - copyright 1976 version on page 26 under appliance cooking section - the title is Sausage Chili - if you don't enjoy a real hot chili, this one is for you!
