It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).

This meaty chili turns forlorn frankfurters into gourmet grillout food, especially when topped with some melty cheddar and sharp red onion. You'll have a hard time having a plain frank ever again.
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
salt and pepper, to taste
1 can (15 ounce size) kidney beans, rinsed and drained, optional
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the beef and onion and cook, stirring, until the beef is no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the beef, onions, and remaining ingredients to the crock pot and mix well.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 4 hours, stirring frequently.
Serve the chili over cooked hot dogs in buns. Top with cheese and fresh chopped onions if desired.

The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Does this make a good thick style chili?

I brown the ground beef and drain off the fat then add the other ingredients and I put the hot dogs in the chili to heat then just use tongs to get the hot dogs on the buns and a spoon to top it with chili. Easy.

We made this last year for the 4th of july and are making it again this year. It was such a hit. To the other reviewer, you don't need to brown the beef but you have to make sure to stir. I've done it both ways. If you brown it ahead of time you don't need to stir as often. It's just a matter of preference. When we serve this to just grownups we also stir in some chopped pickled jalapenos and call them fire dogs :)
Do you brown the hamburger before you add it to crock?
