Cannolis are the epitome of an Italian pastry. They are a tube of pastry dough that has been fried (or in some cases, baked) and then are filled with a sweet ricotta cheese filling. The filling can be flavored (lemon is delicious) and contain chopped sweet bits of fruit, chocolate, or nuts.
