Foodie Friday: Oops, I Did It Again

by Guest Writer, Valerie Whitmore

When I started Foodie Friday, I had selected a few different blogs to try each week. I'd test an interesting recipe from each one, photograph it, and write up the feature. By having a few in the queue, I made sure I wouldn't be caught without a blog to post about, you know, in case a recipe didn't turn out.

You may have noticed that my updates have started to slow down a bit in frequency. Feed Daily has become more like "Feed Weekly". Lately it seems like I've been biting of more than I can chew (food pun intended). The pile of work on my desk is a tad overwhelming. Oh, I've still been cooking, and in fact, I've been cooking some very good food. I even tested, photographed and wrote up my post for today's Foodie Friday featuring a delicious squash soup. It was, however, the last blog in my queue because I got behind in testing.

One of the last steps I do when I write up my Foodie Friday posts is to take a screenshot of the blog we're featuring that includes their logo to give them a little brand recognition

As I sat here at 1:30am on Friday morning putting the finishing touches on the photos from this great soup, I remembered I hadn't yet done that screenshot. So I visited the blog to do just that.

It was then, at 1:30am the day the blog is to be featured, that I realized that the blog we were featuring hadn't been updated in over six months. The most recent post was August.

Now, you might think, "So what? Show me the soup!"

The problem is, I started this feature to showcase some of the great food blogs that are out there. I wanted to give a little shout out to the bloggers that are working hard and doing a great job. Having a regularly updated blog was one of our criteria. This time, that slipped by me. The reason it slipped by me was because this was a blog I was familiar with. The blogger is a regular Twitter user so I didn't question that her blog wasn't being currently updated. But, it apparently hasn't. Which is too bad because I love her recipes.

Now, I know you're still thinking, "So what? Show me the soup!"

And, I'd like to. I really would. I just don't want to set any precedent for featuring non-active blogs

However, I don't want my oversight to leave you feeling hungry this week. So instead I'll give you a sneak peak at one of our upcoming featured crock pot recipes

It's a delicious lentil and Canadian bacon soup that we tried recently. I like cooking with lentils because they don't require overnight soaking like most legumes. You just add them (rinsing first, of course) with the other ingredients and cook until they are tender

Again, I apologize for the lack of posts, and for not having a Foodie Friday this week.  I will have a new blog post this weekend about my first ever attempt at making spring rolls from scratch. I would write up that post now instead of this long-winded excuse for my error, but it's now after 2am and someone needs her beauty sleep.
