1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional
1 package melba toast or crackers
1 pound sliced smoked salmon
2 tablespoons thinly chopped green onions or chives
Combine the butter, horseradish, mayonnaise, white pepper, and lemon juice in a bowl. Mix until combined.
Spread or pipe some of the butter mixture on each toast or cracker. Top with a piece of smoked salmon and garnish with green onions or chives.
Serve the smoked salmon canapes immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 hour.
