Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

This cooked frosting has just the right amount of butterscotch flavor to complement your favorite cake or cupcakes.

1/2 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
4 tablespoons milk, or as needed
2 cups powdered sugar, or as needed
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and mix until dissolved. Bring to a boil and let boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
While stirring, add the milk and return the frosting to a boil. Stir the frosting constantly until it comes to a boil.
Remove the pan from the heat and let cool to lukewarm. When cooled, beat the powdered sugar into the mixture until thick enough to spread. Adjust the thickness of the frosting as needed with additional powdered sugar or milk.

Keeping a can of frozen orange juice concentrate in the freezer means you can make more than just orange juice. Try it in a variety of orange-flavored recipes.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

This was delicious! I didn't need all the powdered sugar, there was maybe 1/4 cup left. Had great flavor and spread very nicely on the cake I was making.

Didn't change a thing, this is a perfect butterscoth icing, tastewise and setting texture. I halved the recipe as I wanted to ice cupcakes (20 it iced).I also used electric mixer to beat icing. Thank you for a lovely recipe.
I made this icing for cupcakes using the exact measurements and ingredients and it turned out great! It has a good flavor. It would taste great on any apple or spice cakes. I printed the recipe and plan to use it again. My kids at church loved it.

I used to make this years ago but lost the recipe. Your recipe was very simple and I feel it had room for error too. I like that it didn't get hard so I can store some in the fridge.

I don't know! I think it tastes very brown sugary and it's thick & sticky. I added milk and that helped and then it thickened up so I added water. I don't NOT like it but so far, it's not the greatest. I have yet to taste it ON the cake, though!

I would give this recipe a 4 but after I added some ingredients it was a 5 Delish! After I added the powdered sugar I thought it was a little thick so I added maybe a tsp or so of milk which made it to the consistancy I wanted. I tasted it and I didn't care for the taste so I added a touch of Butter Imultion/Flavoring and with all my frostings I always add a little less than a Tablespoon of White/Corn syrup. It gives your frosting a nice shine and keeps it from crusting over. Thanks for the recipe!

Two cups of icing sugar is too much,if you get it too stiff to spread, add a little warm water and beat again. It is easy and yummy.
Whenever a recipe has you adding a dry ingredient in small amounts UNTIL it reaches a certain consistency, it means you may not need the entire amount called for in the ingredient section. Always stop adding when you reach the desired consistency.

My husband requested butterscotch frosting for his birthday cake--none seems to be available at the supermarket! This was easy to make, though I'm not sure 3 minutes was long enough to boil, as it was a little grainy. It was also a little thin--it sort of melted off of the cake. I didn't want to add more powdered sugar and lose the flavor. It had a nice flavor, sweet, though not all that "butterscotchy".

Just the recipe I was looking for. Delicious and easy.(Just to say that powdered sugar is also called icing sugar.)

Frosting turned out too dry but very tasty. I assumed the brown sugar should be measured as packed brown sugar? Next time I'll try only adding the powdered sugar until the desired consistency is reached - not the full 2 cups.
