I did not have any confectioners sugar in the house, the weather was bad and did not want to go out. I looked for a recipe requiring no confectioner sugar and found this one. I deviated by using 8oz. of cream cheese instead of shortening. This icing was the BOMB!!!

I tried this recipe last night and my clients raved about it. The only thing I added was 2 tblsp of confectioners sugar because I found the icing to be a bit greasy and wasn't holding a peak. Overall great base and less sweet than most!

Loved it! I usually find frostings too sweet... This is just right! Would recommend it.

I have used this recipe 2 times and I have gotten praise each time. I love baking cakes for any occasion but I was having trouble finding an icing recipe that I actually enjoyed. So, I looked up icings on google and got pointed to this site. I looked through the recipes and picked the easiest looking one. This is the one I picked and I am happy with my choice. I slightly strayed from the recipe to add in some cocoa. I know for a fact I will continue to use the recipe. Fantastic icing!
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
