The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
Cream of Vidalia Onion Soup

ingredients
6 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
4 cups milk
2 cups chicken stock or low-sodium canned chicken broth
1 cup peeled, chopped Vidalia onions
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup trimmed, peeled and finely cut green onions
4 tablespoons cream
directions
Melt 2 Tbsp butter in top of double boiler. Add flour and mix well. Add milk and chicken stock. Beat with wire whisk.
In saucepan over medium heat, saute onions in 4 Tbsp butter for 3 minutes. Add to soup mixture and cook 15 minutes. Simmer, but do not boil.
Add salt, pepper, green onions and cream. Stir to blend, and serve.
